I had the honor of designing the new City Seal for Newton, a project shaped by years of community input and discussion. The goal was to create a design that truly reflects Newton’s identity, history, and values while keeping a connection to past seals. The final design features the well-known view of City Hall across the ponds, along with thoughtful details that make it uniquely Newton.

Some key elements include the year 1688, marking when Newton became its own township, and the words “Liberty” and “Union,” which have been part of the seal for years. The design also highlights Newton’s “Thirteen Villages” and includes a tree as a nod to its reputation as “The Garden City.” The color orange ties it all together, representing both high schools.

This project was a true community effort. After a working group recommended updating the outdated imagery, I was brought on in December 2023 to create a design that honors Newton’s history while working well across different formats. It’s exciting to see this new seal come to life!
